Dear Parents/Guardians,
I hope you are all doing well.
Here is some important information for the upcoming weeks:
September 30: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned from the residential school system, as well as the survivors, their communities, and families who continue to live with the enduring trauma.
September 30 is also **Orange Shirt Day**, symbolizing the forced assimilation of Indigenous children and serving as a reminder that every child matters. This day is inspired by the story of Phyllis Jack Webstad, whose new orange shirt was taken from her on her first day of residential school and never returned.
Monday, September 30th will be a full civvies day. Students are encouraged to wear a touch of orange or an orange shirt to show support for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Monday, September 30th- Last day to place orders for Pizza Days, NO LATE ORDERS ACCEPTED. School cash online only.
October 3rd: Last Day for Harvey’s
Please note that October 3rd is the final day to place a Harvey’s food order for our meet the teacher night
Talize Fundraiser: October 8-10
We will be holding our Talize fundraiser from October 8th to 10th. Please drop off gently used clothing at the school during these days.
Meet the Teacher Night
Our meet-the-teacher night will look a bit different this year. Harvey’s will be served on the playground, and classroom doors will be open for parents/guardians to visit the classrooms with their children. Please note that teachers may or may not be present in their classrooms, so we kindly ask that children not be left unattended.
The Book Fair will be open that evening from 4 PM to 7 PM, providing an excellent opportunity for parents to visit. Below is a message from our Teacher Librarian, Mr. Begin:
Dear Parents and Families,
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! What better way to promote reading to our students than by supporting this important literary event? We invite your entire family to participate by purchasing the latest and greatest children’s books.
Your support is key in helping us obtain new books and resources for our library and classrooms. Our goal is to raise $5000.
You can visit the Scholastic Book Fairs website at [Scholastic Featured Books](https://digital.scholastic.ca/sites/bookfairs/featured-books/) to read reviews of featured books. You can also watch book trailers and author videos with your child on the Book Tube page. A Book Fair flyer will be provided, showcasing just a few of the many books available for purchase.
Don’t forget to mark the Book Fair dates:
**Students: October 7th-10th**
**Parents: October 10th, from 4 PM to 7 PM.**
We look forward to seeing you there, and we thank you in advance for helping make our students lifelong readers—we couldn’t do it without your participation.
Sincerely,
**Mr. Begin, Teacher-Librarian**

Hamilton Wentworth Catholic Child Care Centres
St. Bernadette Early Learning and Care Centre provides before and after care for many of our children. The children use various outdoor spaces for play and exploration, both before and after school hours. These areas include the blacktop, the grassy and tree-covered valley, and the space between the back fence and the blacktop.
We kindly ask that these areas be cleared after dismissal so that the educators can support the health, well-being, and supervision of the children in their care. If you need any clarification about which areas are being used, please do not hesitate to ask the educators, the Operational Lead (Lorie Reid), the Pedagogical Lead (Kelli McCarles), or the principal (Mr. Iassogna).
Thank you for the continued support.
Best regards,
Mr. Iassogna
